Boulder Shootings: Uniting In Christ

Please pray for the victims of the Boulder Shooting. As I'm sure you have heard, 10 people were shot, one of whom was a police officer. When I read about how the shooter walked into the store, and unleashed violence upon innocent people, my heart aches. It seems as people are starting to go back to some sense of normalcy, mass shootings have began again in a disturbing rhythm. Just last week 8 people died at the Atlanta shooting and now the Boulder shooting just this week. Thats 18 people who lost their lives. I feel a sense of powerlessness and pain and anger. Part of me asks God, "How much longer?" How much longer until we are able to have strict gun control laws? How much longer until indicators such as domestic violence, and aggressive behavior, restrict gun access to these individuals? But most of all how much longer will evil seem to prevail because we as a society give it the tools to unleash these vicious acts? I don't have the answer, but I'm reminded of the scripture from this past Sunday again:
John 12:30-32
30 Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine. 31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up[g] from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

There will come a day when God's reign comes in its fullness. We say every time we do communion "Christ has died, Christ IS risen, Christ WILL come again." Its interesting in the scripture cited above that Christ says evil will be kicked out and all people will draw towards Christ. Unity in all people is key in combatting evil through Christ. Christ did ascend after his resurrection and God's work is in mobilizing his followers towards Jesus. I believe if we can all see the same thing, if we can work together and see this evil for what it is and all the indicators that point to its disruption we can unseat evil at its source. So I pray for the victims families, in my anger and helplessness I offer prayers of unity for all of us to see this evil and its cause for what it is.
